Description

Well Hill is a large detached house located in Duntisbourne Abbots. It dates back to the 17th century, with additions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features random rubble limestone construction, dressed stone around the windows, and ashlar chimneys with moulded caps. It has a stone-slate roof and stands two storeys high with an attic.

The layout includes a central cross-passage with one room on either side. A two-storey 19th-century service wing has been added to the east end, which includes a projecting single-storey wing. Additionally, a late 20th-century wing has been added at the back, which contains a staircase hall.

The front of the house has three windows and two large attic gables. The central doorway is surrounded by a chamfered frame and contains a plank door. To the left of the doorway is a three-light window, and to the right is a four-light window, both of which have three-light windows above on the upper floor and two-light windows in the attic. All of these windows are recessed, chamfered, and feature hoodmoulds. Above the doorway is a small timber casement with a stone lintel. The original 17th-century house has chimneys at the ridge of its gable ends.

The 19th-century wing has a two-window front with timber casements and lintels, while the single-storey wing features timber casements with concrete lintels from the 20th century. The late 20th-century back wing has a symmetrical facade with mullioned windows.
