Description
The City of London Corporation Boundary Post, dated 1862, is a boundary post made of cast iron and painted white. It is approximately 30 centimeters square in section and stands about 1.5 meters high. The post features a moulded base, a chamfered shaft, a moulded cornice, and a short upper stage with a moulded cap and a pyramidal top. The front of the shaft has raised lettering at the top that reads "4 & 25 Vict/cap 42," which refers to the London Coal and Wine Duties Act of 1861, although the "2" is missing, indicating it should read "24 & 25." Above this lettering is a raised shield. On the rear, near the bottom, is the maker's mark arranged in an oval: "REGENTS CANAL IRON WORKS/HENRY GRISSELL/1862/ LONDON." This post is one of two similar posts listed.
