Description

The Chigwell coal duty boundary marker is a cast iron post from 1862, created by Henry Grissell of the Regent's Canal Ironworks in London. It is painted white and features a square column with chamfered corners and a pyramidal top. The coat of arms of the City of London Corporation is displayed below the pyramidal top on the necking. Below this, there is a raised inscription that reads ‘4 & 25 VICT / CAP 42’, which refers to the 1861 London Coal and Wine Duties Continuance Act.
