Description
Castle Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with 20th-century extensions and restoration. It features exposed timber framing, with 20th-century brick infilling on the ground floor center and right, whitewashed brick infill above to the right, and whitewashed render infill on the gable wing. The roof is plain-tiled, with a tile-hung gable to the left that includes some diamond-point and fishscale patterning. The building has a T-shaped plan and multiple stacks to the left of center.
It is two storeys high, with tension braces on the first floor of the gabled wing and ogee bracing to the first floor on the right. There are two framed bays on the right side, featuring four diamond-pane leaded casement windows on the first floor and one square-pane window to the left of the stacks. The ground floor has four square-pane leaded casement windows. The first floor of the wing includes a three-light diamond-pane window, while the ground floor has a two-light window and an adjacent three-light window. The left-hand return front has pentice courses of tiles on braces over the ground floor, with a door to the left. At the rear, there are two gables at the center and right, with tiled entices across.
