Description
Tanyard Cottages is a pair of cottages dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with a 19th-century extension on the right. The cottages are timber-framed, with exposed framing on the center and left sides and red brick infill, while the right extension is built of red brick. They have plain tiled roofs that step down and are half-hipped over the left end. The building is two storeys high, with the left cottage being lower. There is a large multiple stack to the left of center at the junction of the two cottages, with additional stacks at the rear left and right.
To the right of center, there are two framed bays with tension braces on the first floor. The first floor features three diamond-pane windows, while the ground floor has two 3-light windows. A door is located to the right of center, sheltered by a patterned-tile pentice hood supported by braces. The right end has a pentice with a small gabled hood, adorned with cusped bargeboards, above another door. The left cottage has three bays, with two windows on the first floor and two below. There is a door to the left of center, also under a similar pentice porch hood, and a pentice extension at the left end with another door beneath a cusped gabled hood on braces.
