Description

Volvens Farm House is a house dating from the early 17th century, with 20th-century extensions. It features a timber frame with square panels, colourwashed brick infill on the left side of the ground floor, and rendered infill for the rest. The roof is covered with Horsham slabs and the building has two storeys with attics in the gable to the left of centre. A large corbelled stack is positioned to the right of centre, and the roof has been raised.

There is a 3-light attic window in the gable, which shows some evidence of previous scrolled carvings that suggest it may have been an oriel window. Below, there is an oriel window supported by two corbel brackets, which is sheltered by a tiled pent hood that extends across the base of the attic gable. On the first floor to the right, there is an 8-light oriel window, and a small window to the left. A tiled pentice hood runs across the ground floor, with one window to the left and square oriel windows to the right of centre and to the right, all beneath tiled hoods and on corbelled brackets. A stable-style door is located to the left.

On the right-hand return front, there is a gable-lit attic with tile hanging on the first floor, which is canted out at the bottom. The ground floor features a 12-pane glazing-bar sash window and a glazed door to the right. At the rear, there is a wing projecting to the left and a single-storey wing to the right, with a door to the right of centre in a weatherboard porch.
