Description
Ellens is a house dating from the early 17th century, with extensions added to the ends and rear in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The lower part of the house is built of brick, while the upper part is timber-framed with whitewashed rendered infill. Brick extensions are present at the ends, with the first floor tile-hung. The roofs are covered in Horsham slabs.
The house has an "E" shaped plan, with projecting gables in the centre and at the ends. It features a hipped and gablet roofed cross wing on the right. Tall, corbelled and ribbed stacks rise from the ridges to the left and right of the centre. The windows are leaded casements, with an attic window in each outer gable. The left-hand gable has one first-floor window and one ground-floor window; to the left of centre there are three first-floor and ground-floor windows. The right-hand side has two first-floor and one ground-floor window. A prominent central gable is topped with an oriel window on the first floor. A four-centred arched entrance leads to a ground-floor porch with a studded door.
