Description

The Post Office and Mumfords is a house that has been divided into shops, located on Middle Street in Shere. The building dates from the 15th century on the right side and around 1550 in the center and left sections. It features a timber frame with a colorwashed brick underbuilding on the ground floor to the left, while the right side has a rendered surface and a glass shop front. The first floor displays the exposed frame with rendered colorwashed infill and has a plain tiled roof that is half hipped with a gablet end on the right.

This two-storey structure has end stacks on the left that have been rebuilt. The left side includes a gabled cross wing that jetties out on the first floor, supported by brackets over the ground floor. The ends have stepped brick brackets, and there is curved bracing on the first floor with queen posts visible in the left gable. The building features one small leaded attic casement window, a four-light mullioned window on the first floor, and an angle bay window on the ground floor. The center section has a jettied first floor with curved bracing and close stud framing, along with one four-light and one three-light window on the first floor. The ground floor center and right have a sash window and a square bay shop window. There is a door to the right of the center under a transom light, with an additional door (Mumfords) on the left-hand return front.
