Description

The Forge is a purpose-built forge dated 1914, although it may incorporate older timbers from a barn located opposite. It features a vernacular revival style and is timber-framed, with the frame exposed at the front, where the ground floor has brick infill and the upper part is finished with pargetted plaster. The other sides are clad in weatherboarding, and it has a tiled roof with a brick chimney that projects through the slope. The building is gable-fronted, showcasing carved weatherboarding and an upper section that projects on brackets. The gable includes four curved tension braces and square framing above, with incised decoration of two lizards at the top. The central Dutch door is flanked by large windows featuring leaded lights. Inside, there is a brick forge with an iron hood, and the walls are covered, while the softwood roof includes tie beams, angled queen struts, and collar beams. At the time of inspection, it was still operating as a forge and is recognized as an early example of conservation architecture.
