Description

The wall from Elm Cottage to Forge Cottage is a Grade II listed structure built in 1772 by the Bray Estate. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, with some sections featuring galleting and brick quoins, as well as a brick bonding course at the base of its rounded coping. The wall stands approximately 12 feet high and extends about 70 feet along the road from Upper Street to Middle Street. To the left of the center, there is an arched well recess that contains stone seats, which are dated 1886 and protected by an iron guard rail designed in the Art Nouveau style, resembling growing irises. This wall is included for its group value and its contribution to the village scene.
