Description

Bodryn Cottage and Forge Cottage are a former hall house that has been divided into two dwellings. The oldest part of the house dates to the late 15th century, with a 17th-century cross wing added to the left end. The building is timber-framed, with the right side clad in whitewashed roughcast, exposed framing to the left and centre, and whitewashed brick infill. It has a steep-pitched plain tiled roof. The layout is T-shaped, with the cross wing on the left.

The cottage is one storey and attic in height on the right and centre, and two storeys on the cross wing. There are two gabled dormers with leaded casement windows beneath tile hung leaded eaves. The first floor of the cross wing is jettied on brackets with end braces. Curved braces support the first floor of the cross wing, and there are remains of close stud framing to the ground floor on the left side of the building. A corbelled ridge stack is located to the right of the centre, with end stacks on the left. There is a three-light leaded casement window on each floor, with two leaded ground-floor windows to the centre left. A planked door is situated under a flat hood to the right of the centre, and another planked and glazed door is located slightly further to the right.

The left-hand return front features a dormer, a further end stack with a pentice roof extension, and three first-floor casement windows, along with ground-floor windows. The right-hand return front includes a tile-hung gable on the first floor. A pentice extension to the left side is weatherboarded and incorporates a lead hopper with a grotesque face dated 1620.
