Description

Nos. 1 and 2 Lower Street are two cottages that were originally a house, with a keystone dated and inscribed "1705 W I D" above the door on the left, suggesting that the building may have been re-fronted from an older structure. The right side and the gable at the right end are part timber-framed with exposed elements, while the rest of the building is clad in red brick and features galleted sandstone on the ground floor to the right. The roofs are plain tiled and the building has two storeys with rendered offset end stacks on the left.

There is a plinth with a plat band above the ground floor, which is higher on the right side, and a plat band at the base of the end gables. The left-hand gable has a diamond panel, and there is a cambered-head casement window on the left-hand gable that breaks through the plat band. The first floor has one window in the centre and one in the right-hand gable, which is located under a pentice drip board. On the ground floor, there are two casement windows at the ends, along with a door to the left, another door to the right of centre (for No. 1), and a door to the right (for No. 2).
