Description
Willow Cottage and Ash Cottage are two former Wealden cottages that date from the late 15th century to early 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th and 19th centuries. The buildings are timber framed and covered in colourwashed roughcast, topped with a plain tiled roof that is hipped with a gablet on the left and a gable on the right. Originally, the structure featured an open hall with a single bay floored at each end, with a service bay on the left.
The cottages are two storeys high, with the first floor jettied on either side of the centre, supported by a moulded bressumer and brackets. There is an inserted 17th-century stack to the left of centre and additional stacks at both ends. The windows are leaded, with three on the first floor and a five-light window in the centre. On the ground floor, there are three windows of three, four, and four lights, with the largest window located on the right. The door to the left, which belongs to Willow Cottage, features "porthole" glazing, while the door on the right end is part of an extension under a flat roof.
