Description

Number 34 (The Gables) and the shop to its right date from the 15th to 16th centuries. The building is timber-framed and originally plastered, now covered with ornamental faux timber-framing. It has an old tile roof and a brick stack on the left side featuring diagonally-shafted details. The upper floor is jettied, and there's a gable on the right side with a four-light casement window on the ground floor and a two-light casement above. A central entrance has a six-panel door, a three-pane fanlight, and an architrave surround. Sash windows are present on the left side, with a three-light casement window above. A 17th-century extension to the left is constructed of colour-washed rubble with dentil eaves and an old tile roof, with one three-light casement window. The shop on the right was originally a barn, featuring a half-hipped south gable and steps leading to the entrance door.
