Description
Old River Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, with later alterations from the 16th and 17th centuries. It features a timber frame set on a whitewashed rendered plinth, with whitewashed brick infilling and a plain tiled roof that is half-hipped, including a gablet at the left end. The building has two storeys and an attic with a gabled dormer, tall proportions, and a stack located to the left of the centre. The upper frame is raised to the right of the stack and across the rear.
The cottage consists of three framed bays with irregular casement windows. There is one window on the first floor to the left, and two windows on the ground floor to the right. To the left, there are two additional windows flanking a ribbed door. The right-hand return front displays an exposed queen post roof truss and end joists of the attic floor, along with a single-storey brick extension from the 20th century at the end. At the rear, there is regular framing with a wide gabled porch at the centre.
