Description

Lloyds Bank Regional Office is a house that has been converted into an office. The building dates from the 16th century at the rear, with a front range from the 17th century, a rebuild at the rear from the 18th century, and a restoration in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is exposed at the rear, with whitewashed brick infilling. The front is clad in colourwashed render on a plinth, topped with a stone-coped parapet that partially obscures a plain-tiled roof.

The building has an L-shaped plan, consisting of a two-bay range at the front that runs parallel to the street, a two-bay range at right angles, and a lower, older two-bay range at the rear. The entrance front has an end stack on the left and is two storeys high, with paired 12-pane glazing-bar sash windows on each floor to the left and one 16-pane glazing-bar sash window on each floor to the right of centre. The door, located to the right of centre, has six fielded panels.

At the rear, the two-bay range features arched bracing on the first floor and a tile-hung flat-roofed dormer to the left. The joist ends are exposed over the ground floor to the left. The ground floor has arched "Gothick" style casement windows alternating with square windows. The lower range to the right has a hipped and gablet roof at the right end, which was rebuilt in the 18th century using old timber, and features arched bracing and a jowled angle post. There is one "Gothick" window to the left and a square window to the right. The rear end overlooking Millbrook has an 18th-century canted window with glazing-bar sash fenestration and moulded surrounds, along with a weatherboard pentice to the right.

Inside, the front range has a purlin roof with diagonal wind-bracing, while the rear range features a purlin and collar beam roof, with a Queen-post roof exposed at the gable end.
