Description
The lower retaining wall and fountain at St Catherine's School were built around 1870. The structure is made of random Bargate rubblestone and blocks, featuring ashlar lintels. The wall is approximately 10 metres long, standing 1 metre high on the left and rising to 3 metres high on the right. There are steps leading up to the main buildings at both ends, and the wall returns up the hill at the right end. An ogee-headed fountain is set into the wall on the right, complete with a stone basin. Below this, there is a smaller fountain under a stepped arch, which is inscribed "For dogs." This structure is included for its group value.
