Description
St Catherine's School, now a drama studio, was built around 1870 in a Gothic style. The building features random Bargate rubblestone and blocks with ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with a plain-tiled roof. It has two storeys on the right side over a plinth and one storey on the left, with a retaining wall at below basement level across the front. The right side has a gable end range with a louvred lancet opening at the apex. Below this is a four-light window under a Tudor-style pointed head, which has trefoil tracery in the upper lights. To the left, there is a stone-dressed ogee-headed five-light window with stone mullions in a chamfered surround. An octagonal turret is positioned to the right of the gable on a brown plinth, featuring trefoil openings on each face. Further to the right, there is a two-windowed range set back, which has 20th-century casement windows on both floors and a door located in a pentice porch at the re-entrant angle.
