Description
Knapps Cottage is a Grade II listed house, now divided, located on Upper Street in Shere. The building dates from the mid-16th century on the left side, with a 17th-century cross wing on the right. It features a timber frame with square panels, colourwashed render infill on the left, and knapped flint infill with a plinth on the cross wing. The roofs are plain tiled, with an offset brick end stack on the left and two diagonal brick end stacks on the right.
The left side has three framed bays, with curved bracing on the first floor to the left and straight bracing to the right. There are two metal casement windows on the first floor to the left and three on the ground floor, including one three-light leaded window on each floor of the cross wing. A ribbed part-glazed door is positioned to the right of centre under a penticed hood (Knapps), with another door on the left-hand return front. Additionally, there is a brick and weatherboarded extension with a pentice roof at the right end.
