Description
Hillier Cottage and October Cottage are a row of cottages located on the east side of The Street in West Clandon. The building dates from the late 17th century on the right, with 19th-century extensions to the left and 20th-century extensions at the rear. The right cottage features a timber frame with thin scantling and brown brick infill on a rendered plinth, while the center is made of whitewashed brick and the left has weatherboard cladding on the first floor. The roofs are plain tiled, with a shallower pitch on the left and half-hipped on the right. The cottages are oriented at right angles to the street and consist of one storey with attics, including a ridge stack on the left and a rear ridge stack in the center.
Hillier Cottage, on the right, has two gabled dormers at the eaves and two ground floor casement windows beneath drip boards. A central plank door is located under a flat hood. October Cottage, on the left, features one gabled dormer and one ground floor window to the left, with a panelled door under a flat hood to the right. There is an additional door in the 20th-century brick extension at the rear left.
