Description
The Bulls Head Public House is a former hall house that has been extended and divided. It dates from the early 16th century, with alterations from the 17th century and 19th-century wings added to the ends. The building has a timber-framed core in the center, which is underbuilt in whitewashed brick, with whitewashed brick infill above the exposed frame. The end extensions are also made of whitewashed brick. The roofs are hipped and covered with plain tiles, featuring a gablet on the left end.
The old house runs parallel to the street, with a cross wing at the left end extending to the rear and front end extensions that create a half-H plan. It is two stories high, with three framed bays in the center, a front end stack on the left, a central ridge stack, and additional stacks to the right of center and on the right side. The end extensions have plinths and a plat band over the ground floor on the right, with dentilled eaves on the left.
On the first floor, there are two casement windows in the center, while the ground floor features one window on the left and another on the right, located in a pentice roof extension at the re-entrant angle with the wing. The left-hand wing has a 20th-century ground floor window, one blocked window, and one casement window above on the side. The right-hand wing has one camber head window on each floor. There is a half-glazed door to the right of center and a 20th-century glazed door set in an arched, tile-on-edge surround to the right-hand wing.
