Description
Clandon Church of England First School is a school building constructed in 1871 by John C. Boys. It features polychrome brickwork, primarily in red, set on a yellow brick plinth with black-header diapering, and has stone and grey brick dressings around the windows. The roofs are plain tiled, with bands of fishscale tiling and cresting along the ridge. The building is two storeys high and has three gabled bays facing the street, each adorned with pierced, wavy edged bargeboards and sphere-decorated pendant finials. There is a ridge stack to the right and a tall rendered stack to the right of centre. The gables are set back, with the largest gable on the left.
To the left, there is a large 4-light casement window with arched lights, and one window on each floor, along with a 2-light and a 3-light window in the central gable. The right-hand gable has one first-floor window. All windows are set in chamfered surrounds. A door to the left features strapwork hinges and a pointed surround, positioned under a pentice porch in the re-entrant angle with a wing set back to the left. Additionally, there is a 3-light arched casement window at the left end and another door to the right in a multiple moulded surround.
