Description

This is a row of early 17th-century cottages located on The Street in Shalford. The construction varies; the centre and right sections are timber-framed on a rendered plinth, with whitewashed pebbledash finishes, while the left section is smooth render. The roofs are slate, with a hip to the right and a lower pitch over the left-hand cottage.

The cottages are two storeys high, featuring a plat band above the ground floor and a shallow jetty to the first floor on the left. There is an end stack to the left and a large corbelled ridge stack to the right. The windows are leaded casements, with six windows on the first floor, divided into sections of two, two, one, and one. The ground floor also has six windows in a similar arrangement, and each is fitted with shutters. Several doors are present: a panel door under a flat hood at No. 24, a half-glazed door under a braced plat hood at No. 26, a fielded six-panel door under a braced hood at No. 28, and a panel door under a flat hood at No. 30. A pentice roof extension is located at the right end, and the left-hand return front is weatherboarded.
