Description

No. 15 and No. 17, Well Cottage are a pair of semi-detached cottages located on Medcroft Road, Tackley. No. 17 dates to 1739, with alterations and additions made in the 19th century, while No. 15 is likely of mid-to-late 18th century origin. The cottages are constructed from limestone rubble with a 20th century cement tile roof and a brick stack at the right end of No. 17. They have a double-depth plan and are two storeys high.

No. 17 has a one-window range, featuring a small one-light casement on the left side. A blocked former doorway on the left has a casement window inserted. A further small one-light window sits to the left of this. The 19th century two-light casement windows are fitted with horizontal glazing bars. A datestone bearing the initials TMM is present. A lean-to addition on the right includes a 20th century half-glazed door. All openings are finished with painted wood lintels.

No. 15, to the left, features a part-glazed door on the right, recessed beneath a painted wood lintel. The casement windows have horizontal glazing bars; those on the ground floor are of 3-lights, and those above are of 2-lights. The right-hand range has a stone flat arch over the ground floor window, with other openings having painted wood lintels. The interiors remain uninspected.
