Description
This statue, located approximately 4 metres south of the east end of the Orangery at Blenheim, is likely from the late 19th or early 20th century. It was created by A. Fruilli of Florence and is made of marble. The finely carved statue is probably of Venus and is inspired by classical antiquity. It stands on a round marble pedestal that features decorative swags and moulding. The statue is signed "A. Fruilli, Firenze." It was likely placed in its current location in the 1920s as part of Achille Duchene's work for the Ninth Duke of Marlborough. This statue forms a pair with another statue located approximately 4 metres south of the south-west corner of the Kitchen Court. It is included for its group value. Blenheim Park is also recognized in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Register of Parks and Gardens at Grade I.
