Description
49A and 49B are houses that have been converted into a shop, surgery, and office. They date from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the early and mid-19th century. The rear is built from colourwashed limestone rubble, while the front and right side walls feature rendered timber framing. The building has a hipped stone slate roof, with an end stack made of stone finished in brick and a rear internal stack of 18th-century brick.
The structure is two stories tall with an attic and has a five-window range. The front includes three mid-19th-century horned sash windows and two blocked windows, all with moulded wood architraves, above modern shop fronts. There is a central six-panelled door from around 1830, with stone steps that are flanked by stick balusters topped with turned finials on the newel posts. The building has two hipped roof dormers with 20th-century casements.
On the right side wall, there is a 20th-century shop front and a four-window range of six-pane sashes in moulded wood architraves, along with two similar dormers. Inside, the building features chamfered and cased beams, a dragon beam on the right, and an early 19th-century dog-leg staircase with winders, which has early 18th-century turned balusters at the attic level.
