Description
Nos. 43, 45, 47, and 48 in Market Square is a house that has been converted into an office, shop, and surgery. It dates from the 17th century, with mid-19th century and 20th century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, featuring a 19th century stuccoed front and a gabled concrete tile roof with a brick ridge stack. It has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range. The doors and shop fronts in the outer bays are from the 20th century, while the first floor has late 19th century two-pane sash windows and 19th century three-light casements. The left bay has an extension made of similar materials, which includes a 20th century shop window at the front. At the rear, there is an 18th century outshut to the left and a central gabled projection with a stone stack, along with a 17th century two-light chamfered wood-mullioned window. Inside, the building features chamfered and boxed beams, 18th century plank doors, and the first-floor room to the right, which is now divided into two rooms, has chamfered and quartered beams.
