Description

78 and 80 Grove Street is a farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings, dating from around 1700. The exterior features rendered walls and an old tile roof with brick stacks. The building has a three-unit lobby-entry plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range. The front includes a 20th-century door, a segmental arch over an early 18th-century sash window to the left, and 20th-century bay windows to the right. On the first floor, there is a late 19th-century three-light casement window to the left and two early 18th-century sash windows to the right. The roof is gabled with ridge stacks, and there is an early 18th-century five-light leaded casement window on the left side wall.

Inside, the property features early 18th-century two-panelled doors, a chalk stack, and stop-chamfered beams in the centre and right sections, along with a collar-truss to the right and original clasped purlins. No. 78, which is to the right, has an early 18th-century two-storey, two-window range constructed from similar materials, a gambrel roof, an external stack at the gable end, an early 18th-century six-panelled door, and 20th-century windows. A similar gabled wing at the rear has a late 19th-century door and two late 18th-century sash windows. The interior of No. 78 includes an original brick floor, mid-19th-century doors, and a staircase. To the rear left, there is a one-storey 18th-century brewhouse made of brick with a gabled stone slate roof, which adjoins an early 18th-century outshut on the left side wall of No. 78.
