Description
North Audley is a farmhouse dating from around 1730. It features a chequer brick front with coursed limestone rubble and brick quoins, topped by an old tile roof and brick stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, presenting a symmetrical three-window facade. The entrance consists of a six-panelled door with an overlight and a flat hood supported by finely carved consoles and a panelled soffit. This door is flanked by segmental-arched three-light leaded cross windows, with timber lintels above similar first-floor windows of three lights on either side of a two-light window above the door.
There is a raised storey band and dentilled eaves, along with three gabled roof dormers that have 20th-century casements. The ends of the building display fine brick Dutch gables with tile coping, and the stacks are positioned at the junction of the front range and a double-gabled rear range, which also features tile coping. The rear includes two 18th-century two-light leaded casements and a two-light leaded cross-window in the left gable wall.
Inside, there are four-panelled doors set in moulded architraves, as well as two early 18th-century plank doors at the rear. An open fireplace is located to the right, and there is an early 18th-century dog-leg staircase with a winder in the central vestibule, featuring fine turned balusters on a closed string and a plank spandrel. The first floor has not been inspected. North Audley is a rare example of a Dutch-gabled farmhouse in this area.
