Description

32 and 33 Market Place is a town house, now used as offices, dating from around 1700. It is built of Flemish bond flared brick with red brick quoins and dressings, topped with an old tile roof and featuring flared and red brick stacks. The building has an L-plan layout and stands two storeys high with a five-window range. A 20th-century central door and window are located to the right under a continuous fascia. There are gauged brick segmental arches over late 19th-century sash windows and a coved cornice. The hipped roof has stacks at the rear and left lateral sides. The left side wall features a three-window range in Flemish bond brick with flared headers, including first-floor windows with segmental arches over one-light and two two-light cross windows with leaded casements. There is a similar late 18th-century three-storey wing at the rear left, which has a half-hipped old tile roof and a three-light leaded casement from the 18th century.

Inside, there are 18th-century six-panelled doors and chamfered and stopped ground floor beams. To the left, there is a panelled room from around 1730, which includes a marble fireplace flanked by Ionic pilasters. At the rear of this room is a winder staircase from around 1730, featuring turned and fluted balusters on an open string and a panelled dado. The landing ceiling is adorned with decorative plaster motifs and a moulded cornice.
