Description
No. 20 Market Place is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It dates from the early 18th century, with a second storey added in the late 19th century. The building features flared Flemish bond brickwork with red brick dressings and has late 19th-century club tiles on the second floor. The roof is covered with old tiles and there is a brick stack. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a four-window range. The early 20th-century shop front is notable, while the first floor has gauged brick segmental arches over late 19th-century sash windows. There is a coved cornice and late 19th-century sashes on the second floor. The roof is M-shaped with gable end stacks. The right side wall is constructed in Flemish bond with flared headers and features segmental arches over late 19th-century sashes. The ground floor has been remodelled in the 20th century, and while the first floor has not been inspected, it is likely to be of interest.
