Description
The Bell Inn Public House is a building that dates back to the late 16th century. Originally timber-framed and jettied at the center, it has been extended by three bays to the left and two bays to the right, with a refacing that occurred around 1890. The ground floor features late 19th-century English bond brick, while the first floor is tile hung with club and plain tiles. The roof is covered with old tiles and has brick stacks.
The building is two storeys tall, with an additional attic storey on the left side, and presents a seven-window range. There are flat and segmental arches above the late 19th-century cellar doors. The windows are late 19th-century casements, and there is a gabled dormer on the left with a stepped three-light casement. Each of the four first-floor windows on the right side has gablets above them. The gabled roof is also hipped at the adjoining rear left gable, which has ridge stacks. The left gable wall features a late 19th-century panelled door with an overlight.
Inside, the building has a three-bay collar-truss roof with clasped purlins. The timber framing and large jowled posts are exposed on the first floor, and there is part of a chamfered beam visible on the ground floor.
