Description

This house, now shops, dates from the early to mid 17th century. It is located on the north side of Wantage Market Place, originally part of a group with number 41, though that has been separated. The building has a timber-frame structure, significantly restored in the mid-20th century, with herringbone brick panels and a stone slate roof, incorporating a brick stack with oversailing courses. The plan is based on two units, and the building is three storeys high with a three-window front. Modern shop fronts have been installed. The upper floors are jettied, with brattishing and restored brackets. The windows are modern, featuring three- and two-light cross windows with ovolo-moulded mullioned lights to the first floor. The interior contains chamfered and stopped beams. The first floor and attic were not inspected, but are likely to contain features of interest.
