Description
Nos. 9 and 10 Market Place is a town house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the 17th century and was remodeled in the early 18th century. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick with flared headers and features an old tile roof, although the stacks are not visible. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a five-window range.
The ground floor has a 20th-century door with an overlight set in a moulded wood architrave to the left, and a 20th-century front. There are gauged brick flat arches with keystones above the original first-floor sash windows and late 19th-century three-pane sashes. A red brick string course and parapet course are present, along with a parapet.
At the rear right, there is a mid-18th century two-storey, two-window range with rendered walling, a 20th-century tile hipped roof, and brick lateral and ridge stacks. Inside, there is an 18th-century straight-flight staircase with a moulded newel post to the rear left, and an early 18th-century quarter-turn staircase with moulded balusters to the rear right. The first floor features early 18th-century two-panelled doors and a round-headed arch with impost and key-blocks to the rear. The party wall adjoining No. 11 is timber-framed with wattle and daub infill, and is hung with stone slates on the right side.
