Description
Hythe Cottage is a house that dates back to the early 17th century, with a late 17th-century extension on the left side. Originally constructed with a timber frame, the exterior is rendered and features a gabled roof covered with old tiles, while the rear left side has stone slate. A large stone ridge stack, which was originally the end stack of the early 17th-century house, is prominent. The building has been extended from a one-unit to a three-unit plan and stands two storeys tall, with the extension creating a four-window range. The front has 20th-century doors and windows, including a two-light leaded casement in the top left corner. At the junction between the two ranges at the rear, there is a stair turret. Inside, the walls are timber-framed throughout. The early 17th-century section features a chamfered ground-floor beam and a chamfered braced tie beam. The late 17th-century extension includes chamfered beams and jowled posts supporting a two-bay queen-post truss with windbraces, along with a timber-framed partition for the winder stairs.
