Description

Old Farm House, now a house, dates from the mid to late 18th century and was extended in the early 20th century. It features flared brick with red-brick dressings and red brick on a clunch rubble plinth, topped by an old plain-tile roof with brick stacks. The building is L-shaped and has two storeys with a four-window front in header bond. The left side has three earlier bays with a storey band, 16-pane sashes on the first floor, and a central doorway that includes a six-panel door, an architrave, and a triangular pediment supported by carved consoles. To the left, there is a large rectangular bay window with four sashes, which is contemporary with a matching bay in the two-storey extension on the right. To the right of the door are two sashes, likely replacing a single sash. The left end wall, made of red brick, returns to a rear wing and features a row of three segmental-arched blind windows at ground level, along with a leaded three-light horizontal-sliding sash. The roof is hipped with ridge and lateral stacks. Inside, there is an 18th-century fireplace with a carved architrave and cornice, and the initials "SL 1767" are scratched on a chimney brick in the roof space. Adjacent to the house is a small 18th-century barn with two bays, a weatherboarded front wall on a rubble plinth, a rubble rear wall, and a half-hipped old plain-tile roof. The barn's trusses have curved inner principals. Additionally, there are 19th-century cast-iron front railings on a rubble and brick wall, complete with matching gates.
