Description
No. 40 Hammer Lane is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century, with extensions added in the late 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of coursed clunch rubble with some brick dressings and features a plain-tile roof with brick gable stacks. The building has a two-unit plan and is one storey plus attics. The earlier three-window section of the front includes a central doorway with brick jambs and a segmental arch, flanked by two-light casements that have stone flat arches. There are also three two-light gabled dormers. A stone eaves cove continues onto a slightly later bay to the right. The left gable wall and a small rear wing display late 19th-century brick dressings. The interior has not been inspected.
