Description

WARBOROUGH THAME ROAD SU5994 (West side) 6/172 Nos.233 and 235 13/10/75 (Formerly listed as barn at Upper Farm)

Farmhouse, now 2 dwellings. Late C15/early C16, remodelled 1791, converted to farm building early C20, reconverted late C20. Timber framing encased in coursed clunch rubble with brick dressings and some weatherboarding; old plain-tile roof. 4-unit hall-house plan, altered. One storey plus attics. Walls have irregular Segmental-arched openings, much altered, and a brick dentil eaves course plus weatherboarded gables; roof has a central wooden louvre. Brick over door inscribed "1791" and "G.S.". Interior not inspected but noted as having remains of original timber framing indicating a 2-bay open hall with storeyed end bays; central lower king-strut truss has chamfered timbers and curved braces to the tie beam. Most of the original rafters survive. (M. Airs: Upper Farm, Warborough, unpublished paper).
