Description
Nos. 233 and 235 on Thame Road are a farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. The building dates from the late 15th century to early 16th century and was remodeled in 1791. It was converted to a farm building in the early 20th century and then reconverted back to residential use in the late 20th century. The structure features timber framing that is encased in coursed clunch rubble, with brick dressings and some weatherboarding, topped by an old plain-tile roof. It has a four-unit hall-house plan that has been altered and consists of one storey plus attics. The walls include irregular segmental-arched openings, which have been much altered, and there is a brick dentil eaves course along with weatherboarded gables. The roof has a central wooden louvre. Above the door, there is a brick inscription reading "1791" and "G.S.". Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to have remnants of the original timber framing, indicating a two-bay open hall with storeyed end bays. The central lower king-strut truss features chamfered timbers and curved braces to the tie beam, and most of the original rafters are still present.
