Description

The Terrace Walk and attached gazebo, along with the walls and gateways, are located to the west of Yarnton Manor. This raised terrace walk dates from the early 17th century, with most of the work attributed to Thomas Garner around 1895. The retaining walls are made of squared and coursed limestone and coursed limestone rubble, featuring chamfered stone coping at the front and buttresses. Ball finials are positioned atop limestone ashlar piers, and stone-coped steps lead from the garden up to the terrace walk. There are early 17th-century ovolo-moulded doorways, one with a shaped pediment, at the north-east and south-east corners at the front. In the south-west corner, there is a late 19th-century gazebo made of stone ashlar, designed in the Jacobean style, complete with ball finials on the shaped gable and a round-arched doorway. At the rear, steps with a Jacobean-style pierced balustrade ascend to an arched gateway with a shaped gable; across the terrace walk from the rear of the gateway is an early 17th-century moulded-arched doorway featuring a shaped pediment. The terrace walk encloses the garden behind Yarnton Manor.
