Description

No. 24 Sheep Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It dates back to 1689, as indicated by a datestone, and was remodeled and extended in the mid-19th century. The building features rendered walls with stucco dressings, brick, and limestone rubble, topped with plain-tile and Welsh-slate roofs. It consists of two parallel ranges and a long rear wing, with two storeys plus attics.

The front of the building has three windows and is rendered with a plain parapet that has ball finials, rising from a moulded band. The first-floor windows are casements with eared architraves and triangular pediments above panelled friezes, likely all from the 19th century. The right return wall to No. 22, which is not included in this listing, has a similar window. The ground floor primarily serves as a shop front, but to the far left, there is a section of rusticated walling that contains a large six-panelled doorway. Above this doorway is the datestone inscribed "R/IM/1689". The roof is steep-pitched with a shallower slated roof at the rear. The rear of the building is mostly from the 19th century, but the rear range includes the gable of a former stair projection. The rubble and brick rear wing consists of several different builds. Inside, there are chamfered beams in the alleyway.
