Description
No. 106 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop with offices above. It dates from the 18th century and was altered in the 19th century. The building features a stucco facade over a brick front that is part of an earlier timber-framed structure. It has a moulded cornice and a parapet above a concealed Welsh slated roof over the front range. The building is two storeys tall.
On the first floor, the stucco facing includes one slightly off-centre sash window set in a reveal, a black recessed panel to the left, and a part blank recessed panel to the right, which has been affected by the rebuilding of No. 104, which is not included in this listing. The ground floor has a 19th-century shopfront that features a timber pilaster, a stucco stallriser, moulded timber cill and mullions, and plate glass windows. There is a central entrance door in a slightly canted recess, with a fascia that is now covered by a modern sign and a blind box above.
The north elevation facing West Street is made of yellow brick in Flemish bond, with a Welsh slated roof. The first floor has one triple light casement window with glazing bars, and one small double light casement window, with divided lights in the attic gable above. The ground floor features a 19th-century arcaded shop window in a timber surround, with a pierced moulded cast-iron vent strip above, and a timber fascia with a moulded cornice. There is a modern entry door on the right.
