Description
These are a pair of cottages dating from the early to mid-18th century, situated on the west side of Heyford Road in Kirtlington. The cottages are constructed of squared limestone, with a concrete roof covered in plain tiles and brick gable stacks. Each cottage has a single-room plan. The two-storey façade originally featured a four-window arrangement. The outer bays include two-light casement windows, with the upper windows having renewed cross frames. The inner bays have single-light transom windows above entrance doors, which are positioned to flank a central four-panel doorway. All ground-floor window and door openings are topped with stone flat arches. The arches over the outer doorways are built from ashlar stone, potentially indicating an earlier alteration that replaced entrances from a shared passage. Number 2, the right-hand cottage, has a 20th-century casement window inserted into the façade. The rear of the cottages retains an original roof dormer and some original casement windows with leaded glazing. The interiors were not inspected as part of the listing process.
