Description

This is an 18th-century house and attached forge, located in Barford St. Michael. The house is constructed of regular coursed ironstone rubble, with a thatched roof and two brick end stacks. It follows a 2-unit plan, standing as a single storey with an attic, and has a 2-window front. A panelled front door, with a moulded wooden surround and wooden lintel, is located to the left. Modern thatched parging is present. To the right are a pair of wooden casements, one 2-light and one 3-light, with stop-chamfered wooden lintels and wrought iron casement fasteners. Two attic casements, each with 2 lights, iron glazing bars, and wooden lintels are also visible. The rear elevation features a half-glazed plank door, moulded wooden surround, and a wooden lintel, in addition to 2- and 3-light metal casements. A modern extension has been added to the left. Inside, the house has chamfered beams and a winder stair. The forge, situated to the right, features a wide wooden lintel above a blocked entrance. To the left of the forge interior are a 2-light wooden window and a blocked doorway, both with wooden lintels. The forge’s interior has a modern ceiled roof.
