Description
This is a wall and gateway dating from the 16th century, located approximately 100 metres east of Northbrook Farmhouse, which is not included in this listing. The structure is made of limestone ashlar and rubble. The ashlar wall stands about 2.5 metres high and stretches for 50 metres. It features a flat stone coping that steps up to the left and includes a small 4-centre arched gateway topped by a moulded triangular pediment. The rear of the wall is constructed from rubble, with a rubble flat arch above the gateway. This wall and gateway are likely remnants of the gardens associated with the 16th and 17th century mansion of the Dashwood family, which was destroyed in 1750.
