Description
Northbrook Bridge, located in Kirtlington, is a canal and river bridge built in the late 18th century, with the river bridge possibly dating earlier. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone with some ashlar dressings. The canal bridge features a segmental arch with projecting imposts and a keyblock, all linked by a plain hood mould. The parapet rises over the arch from square piers on the east and has a flat coping. The north face of the canal bridge has a cast-iron plate inscribed "210". The river bridge on the west consists of a group of three graduated semi-circular arches that rise from ashlar piers, complemented by small triangular cutwaters on both sides. The piers and flanking projecting strips have ashlar imposts that continue as bands beneath the arches. Access from the west is via a short causeway that curves northwards and includes additional ashlar piers and a rebuilt flood arch.
