Description

Old Corner House and the attached wall is a house likely built in the 17th century, with later additions from the late 18th to early 19th centuries. It is constructed from marlstone ashlar with some limestone dressings, and features roofs of Stonesfield slate and Welsh slate, along with an ashlar lateral stack. The building is arranged in an L-shape and consists of two sections: two storeys plus an attic on one side and two storeys on the other.

The left half of the front is the two-storey slate-roofed former wing of The Hermitage and has a 12-pane sash window on each floor. A recessed timber-framed section, dating from around 1900, connects to the earlier part of the house and contains panelled double doors. The right half of the front features a large four-light 19th-century window at ground level, with ovolo-moulded mullions and a transom, while above it is a smaller three-light transomed window and a two-light mullioned window in the gable, which may date back to the 17th century. A moulded plinth runs along both sides of the building, and the gable parapet has triangular copings with moulded projecting kneelers. The right side wall extends beyond the main structure as a high wall. The interior has not been inspected.
