Description
Burford House is a corner house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone set on a tall stone plinth, featuring alternating flush stone quoins and a hipped slate roof with a rendered ridge stack. The square corner block has two storeys. The facade facing Burford Street includes two 12-pane sash windows on the first floor, each with flush stone surrounds. On the ground floor to the right, there is a longer 12-pane sash window, and to the left, a door set in a semi-circular flush stone soffit. This door has a panelled reveal, a slightly recessed radial fanlight, and a more deeply recessed door consisting of six fielded panels, accessed by three stone steps. The side facing Sherborne Street features two 12-pane sash windows on each floor, with the ground floor windows being longer, all with flush stone surrounds. Some rooms retain internal shutters.
