Description
The Baptist Church, built in 1817, is located on Sherborne Street in Lechlade. It is constructed from coursed and dressed stone with quoins on a plinth and features a slate roof. The building is a single rectangular range of two storeys. The south gable end has a moulded string course and verge that create the appearance of a pediment, with a radial semi-circular light positioned above the string course. On the first floor, there are two 9-pane sash windows with large flush stone lintels and keystones, while the ground floor has two 12-pane sash windows. The central entrance consists of recessed double doors with three recessed panels each, set in a semi-circular soffit, topped by a large decorative radial fanlight. Inside, there is a balcony at the south end supported by small columns, likely made of iron, and a staircase located in the southeast corner. A preaching box is still visible at the north end, although the interior is not accessible.
