Description

Briggs Cottage and College Cottage are a pair of cottages, likely dating from the late 17th century, with a 20th-century extension. They are built of limestone rubble with wooden lintels, and have a thatched roof with rubble and brick gable stacks. The cottages have single-unit plans and are two storeys high, with one storey plus an attic in College Cottage. College Cottage, on the right, is taller and features a doorway and two-light casement windows. Briggs Cottage retains an original plank door with a heavy frame, and contains a two-light wood-mullioned window, along with a dormer. A large projection for a rubble chimney is visible on the left-hand gable wall. Inside College Cottage is an open fireplace and a bread oven; the interior of Briggs Cottage was not inspected. A large 20th-century extension to the rear of Briggs Cottage is not considered to be of special architectural interest.
