Description

Sunnyside is a house located in Weston on the Green, originally built in the 17th century and extended in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is constructed from limestone rubble and features a thatched roof with both gabled and hipped ends, along with an axial stack that has a brick shaft.

The original cottage had a one-room plan with a gable-end stack at the north end. In the 18th century, a single-storey extension was added to the north end, and likely later in the 18th century or in the 19th century, a small wing was constructed at the rear (west) of the original house. In the late 20th century, a single-storey extension was added in the southwest angle at the rear.

The exterior of the house is one storey with an attic and features an asymmetrical three-window front. The centre has a 20th-century two-storey canted bay window that rises through the eaves, with two 2-light casements on the left side, which have concrete lintels. At the rear, there is a narrow gable-ended wing in the centre with a thatched roof, along with a 20th-century single-storey flat roof extension in the right angle.

Inside, the left (south) room has a chamfered cross-beam with hollow step-stops and a large stone fireplace that includes an oven and a renewed bressumer. The right (north) room is open to the roof, featuring an exposed tie-beam and collar truss, with common rafters and purlins visible in the attic chamber.
